Throughout the camp the cadets are placed into "schools" which compete for points to earn prizes. This year the top school won a deep sea fishing trip. The top cadet received rod and reel combos from Gary Klein and a gift card to Academy for $250.00. The casting competition winner also received a rod and reel combo from Gary Klein. Several cadets won Academy gift cards for top trifold, top fly, and top notebook.
If you have a child or know one that will be 13-17 next July and has an interest in fish, fishing, outdoors, or conservation please visit http://www.texasbrigades.org/ to find out more about attending a Texas Brigade Camp. I have to start by thanking David Ewald from Fishiding.com for donating structure material for our Government lake management plan. The cadets write a management plan for this lake every year and finally we were able to implement some of the structure they have been asking for. All the units were placed by the cadets and gps located. Hopefully in the future this will allow the new cadets to evaluate the structures ability to attract fish. David has already expressed interest in continuing this partnership in the future and we couldn't be happier to have his support. Visit his website www.fishiding.com to learn more about his product line.
I would like to also thank Bob Lusk (Pond Boss) for donating a magazine for every cadet. He does this every year and the kids love to see that pond management is an industry. Go visit Bob's forum and subscribe to the magazine you won't regret it www.pondboss.com.
This year Jason Martin from Martin Eco-Systems donated a floating island to government lake. It is such a unique and beneficial product and I cannot thank Jason enough for sending one to us. The kids will enjoy watching the island grow and change over time and the lake will greatly benefit from this product. Go visit
www.martinecosystems.com to learn more about their islands.
I can't forget Willie Core from Cargil he donated hats and shirts for prizes at the end of camp. We give away prizes at the end of camp and its guys like Willie that insure that the kids go home happy.
Finally I have to thank Pro Anglers Trait Crist and Gary Klein. Both of them spent full days with the kids told their stories, answered questions, and provided great professional role models for the cadets. Go to their websites ( traitfishing.com and garykleinproangler.com) and follow them on twitter and facebook.
Thank you to everyone involved in Bass Brigades and I can not wait for next years camp.
